Don’t Ring the Bell!
“Don’t Ring the Bell” was preached on Sunday evening by Pastor Mike Ray at Hopewell Baptist Church on Sunday evening, 8/1/2021 on his 35th church anniversary.
Psalm 78:3. And he says here, “Which we have heard and known, And our fathers have told us. [4] We will not hide them from their children, Shewing to the generation to come The praises of the Lord, and his strength, And his wonderful works that he hath done. ”
What he’s saying is that we know God’s Word. We’re going to pass it to our kids and to our grandkids. Salvation and Christianity is a generational thing. We don’t want it just for us. When the inevitable happens, we’re going to get old and pass off the scene. And what did we put inside the hearts of our kids? What did we put inside the hearts of our grandkids?
And then he says in Psalm 78:6 “That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; Who should arise and declare them to their children:” commandments:
And so, this is a big thing. Then he talks about one of the children of Joseph. We talked about Joseph this morning. Joseph had two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh. It’s speaking of one of Joseph’s kids. Psalm 78:9 “The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, Turned back in the day of battle.” So, they had their weapons of warfare. They were in a battle and they turned back. Psalm 78:10 “They kept not the covenant of God, And refused to walk in his law; [11] And forgat his works, And his wonders that he had shewed them.” So, notice what he says, “being armed, and carrying bows, Turned back in the day of battle.” I’ll tell a story and then we’ll go from there.
